Child labor is any form of work done by children and adolescents below the legal minimum age allowed to work, according to the laws of each country.
Child labor generally is prohibited by law. Specifically, the most harmful or cruel forms of child labor are not only prohibited, but also constitute a crime.
The exploitation of child labor is common in developing countries and emerging countries like Brazil, where the poorest regions in this work is quite common. Most oftenthis occurs because of the need to help the family financially. Many of these families are generally of poor people who have many children.
Despite the existence of laws that prohibit this type of work officially, is common in large Brazilian cities the presence of minors at intersections of roads with heavy traffic, selling goods in small monetary value.
Although parents are officially responsible for their children, it is not customary forjudges to punish them. The action of justice applies more to those who hire minors, yet the sentences are not actually applied.
